Rossini, Bel canto e le opere degli effetti speciali vocali:

Rossini wrote 39 operas, Donizetti 65, Bellini 10 - all innovative and unprecedented (i.e. light years away from Mozart), with the emphasis on beauty of sound supported by very refined vocal techniques.

These composers dominated Italian opera from the 1810s to the 1840s (until Verdi came along and changed everything again!)

At this special event we shall sample both performed  and a/v highlights from a small selection of bel canto operas with the focus on Lyric Opera's production of Il Barbiere.

Presented by George Fleeton
